Our school year is off to a great start! Mrs. Ross and I are enjoying getting to know our new rockstars. We have started all of our curriculum units and were so excited to see that the students remembered many of the things they learned in K. When we turned and talked during our read aloud the kids were discussing characters and setting using academic vocabulary and complete sentences. That is music to a teacher's ears!

Fifth Grade Buddies Rock! Today we met with our fifth grade buddies for the last time. It was so great to see the relationship these students have built up over the year together. It was a bit (well, a lot) hard for me because many of these fifth graders were my first graders. I can't believe they are leaving GH! What a great time we had this year! We had a fun day! We made cards and love bugs to give to someone special, did some candy math, and then got to pass out cards to all our friends. Their boxes were so creative and fun to look at! We hope all our families had a great Valentines!
We have been learning about groundhogs this week. Today we had fun creating our own burrows! Mine had a flat screen TV and the kids were super creative too!
Today was our 90th day of school! We celebrated by making an art projects using heart shapes and writing about our year so far. Mrs. Ross and I have such mixed feelings....90 days until summer means only 90 days until we have to send these wonderful kids to second grade!
We are having fun working on our second trimester projects. Students did research on weather topics and then planned out either a Keynote or Comic Life project. They had to write out their plan and also learned how to recall facts in their own words. They are so excited to add QuickTime movies and transitions to their projects. Check back soon to see the competed projects!
Our class is helping our upper grade friends as they research and collaborate on projects about school lunches. Once we explained what "vegetarian" and a Caesar salad were the kids completed a survey of items they would like to eat at school. I, for one, would love to see a salad bar at Gardenhill, yum!
Today we spent the day learning about Christmas in the Phillipines with Mrs. Ricarte. We made these beautiful paper lanterns and learned about her holiday traditions.
Room 33 has begun our unit on learning about holidays around the world. Here we are with our pointsettias from the country of Mexico.
As we get ready for vacation we have invited parents to come and hear us song some fun holiday songs. And to bring down more magic along we made Frosty the snowman hats!
